Week One

Reflecting upon week one feels like trying to acknowledge that you're in the good ol' days before they're over. Since we're just getting started with the semester i'd like to talk a little about the observations I have about how I think it all might go so that I can look back on it later and compare. The first week of school is always a nerve racking and exciting time, but with Covid being the new norm for the world, things seem to be in a special kind of disarray. It's almost surreal spending time in zoom calls and watching online course videos from my bed instead of spending any significant amount of time on campus. Though this isn't exactly the experience i'd prefer, there is something enjoyable about waking up 8 minutes before class starts and participating in pajamas. Even though this won't be how I had envisioned the semester going pre-covid, I am still very excited to see what it has to offer. I am also curious to see if we'll actually be on campus for as long as planned, or if a covid-spike will end up changing our trajectory to a 100% online semester.

Aside from all of that, I did get to participate in a few activities this week. Currently i'm working on a video project for a non-profit I worked for over the summer. I got my fellow student ambassador Daniel to come and help me film some scenes and that went great. Another thing that I did was work the welcome desk. It was nice to actually be on campus and see people again, even if they were six feet away with masked faces. I think I pretty much have the hang of it, but we'll see how complicated the questions get as the semester continues. Overall this was a good week given the circumstances! Here's to everyone staying happy and healthy all semester.
